Criminalising Coercive Control in Australia – The Way Forward

DRVAW Workshop: Criminalising Coercive Control in Australia – The Way Forward by Professor Marilyn McMahon, Deakin Law School.

This workshop will be held online from 12-1pm on 27th May.

This workshop is open to anyone in the family violence sector, researchers, students or legislators who would like to attend. The recent announcement by the government of Queensland that it will enact legislation criminalising coercive control significantly shifts the debate on this issue in Australia. In this presentation, Professor McMahon will discuss the framework for the new Queensland law, consider its possible format, and discuss the way in which some of the challenging issues identified by the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce are likely to be addressed.
